Meet the artist: Hannah Auer

Current Hometown: Minot

Where can we see your work?

I am new to Minot, so I do not currently have any work up in galleries, but I hope to soon to help make a name for myself. However, I will be at ARTMAIN displaying and selling art for the first Thursday of June.

Do you have work for sale?

I do! I have paintings actively for sale on my website www.happyauerarts.com. I also post pieces to my Instagram (@hannahauerarts) account that may be for sale as well.

In what media do you work?

I love painting with acrylic, oil, and watercolor. My current favorite creative activity to do is painting on jeans and wood, which has been quite a hit. I also do some drawing, and have been actively learning photography and am always looking for models!

How would you describe your style?

I don’t think I can pin myself down to one specific style. I try to be as versatile and open minded as possible when it comes to creating things. Anywhere from traditional, modern, psychedelic, etc.

Who would you say have been influences on your work?

To name a few, Layne Johnson, Rachel Pohl, Kit King, and the list goes on. I am constantly inspired by different artists, but these three tend to stand out in my mind. You should look them up, they are extraordinary artists. They may inspire you as well.

Are there particular themes you like to explore in your work?

This may be stereotypical, but nature and music have a tendency of being the themes I hone in on the most.

What do you most enjoy about the creative process?

I would say the lack of boundaries and the never-ending learning you gain from experimenting.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in a small town in Indiana, where the love for NASCAR and Indy Car bring so many people together. I graduated from Indiana State University, during which I found my love for painting, and even had the opportunity to study in Florence, Italy for a semester. I love all animals and volunteering, so if you know of any great opportunities, shoot me an email! I’ve worked with disabled individuals my whole life, I have a brother with 18q- syndrome (email for more info regarding this as well, I love informing the curious of this disability.) This actually inspired me to do free photoshoots for families that have loved ones with any disability to give them a chance at the spotlight they deserve. As you can tell, that is my other passion, aside from creating art for others. Lastly, I am married to my awesome, extremely-supportive husband (stationed at Minot AFB), and we have two sweet pups (Tina and Milo).
