LFC 22: 4 Bears Casino fight night to feature Olympic gymnast
The Lingerie Fighting Championships, or LFC, is set to be the fourth national entertainer since the opening of the recently-expanded event center at 4 Bears Casino & Lodge in New Town.
Fighter Andreea Vladoi comes to the LFC from Bucharest, Romania, where she was a member of that country’s Olympic rhythmic gymnastics team. She competed at the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
“It’s a very great experience,” said Vladoi. “You cannot describe it in words. The pressure was huge. Being there makes you feel special.”
Like Vladoi, Nadia Comaneci is also a Romanian gymnast. At the age of 14, Comaneci became the first gymnast in Olympic history to be awarded the perfect score of 10.0 at the 1976 summer Olympics in Montreal. Vladoi recalls Comaneci visiting her training center to meet with her team.
“She was giving us lots of advice,” said Vladoi. “Be strong, be positive and go for it.”
While Vladoi has trained in several martial arts styles including karate, judo and jujitsu, she is most comfortable with wushu. She began competing in amateur MMA events while still a member of the Olympic team (without the knowledge of her coaches) and turned pro in 2012. Vladoi is glad that MMA is her second passion after gymnastics.
“I didn’t think I would have a passion like I did with gymnastics. Now I do with MMA,” said Vladoi.
Vladoi compiled a 10-2 record before coming to the United States for the opportunity to train at the LFC’s farm system in Topeka, Kan.
Vladoi is set to face off against Jolene Hexx at LFC 22. The krav maga specialist hails from Salt Lake City, Utah boasts a 14-5-1 record. While their first match ended in a draw, Vladoi is excited for her rematch.
“I’m a very complex fighter, so I always fight differently,” said Vladoi. “I never have the same match, I never make the same moves.”
Vladoi injured her shoulder in training but is expected to be fully recovered in time for LFC 22.
“The pain will be excruciating, but I can deal with it,” she said.
Vladoi has a few pre-fight words for Hexx.
“Be careful and watch for The Storm because it’s coming,” she said. “Watch your back and be ready.”
LFC 22 will take place Saturday, Oct. 29, at 4 Bears Casino & Lodge in New Town. The first fight begins at 7 p.m.
