Hands on History

Date: Saturday, July 18

Time: 1 to 4 p.m.

Location: Knife River Indian Villages, Stanton

You Should Know: The Hands on History Series continues on selected Saturdays in July to allow the public to see and try their hands at various skills that were part of the Hidatsa Mandan culture. Continuing the series will be Native American beadwork-related activities. Renee Mayer will lead off with a demonstration of traditional beading. A short interpretive presentation on the manufacture and acquisition of beads and a make-and-take keychain beading activity will follow. Supplies will be furnished. Minot’s 3rd annual Kite Festival

Date: July 18-19

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Maysa Arena lawn and sky

You Should Know: The annual kite festival will take to the skies, delighting the Minot community. The event is free and includes displays, participation and kite vendor. People are reminded to wear bug spray and bring lawn chairs. For more information, call Rollie at 721-6146.

Cotton Wood performance

Date: Sunday, July 19

Time: 3 p.m.

Location: Sibyl Center, Stanley

You Should Know: Cotton Wood bluegrass band from Washburn, Center and a recent expansion to Arizona will give a performance at the event center. The group has been together for 14 years, making music in four states now and are well known for their events in Bismarck and the Cross Ranch State Park with its annual Bluegrass Festival.

FAME events at the International Peace Garden

Date: Sunday, Aug. 2

Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: International Peace Garden, 14 miles north of Dunseith

You Should Know: Join in the summer festivities at the International Peace Garden’s sixth annual FAME (fun, arts, music and entertainment) events. Don’t miss the 13-year-old cello player, Minot Camera Club photos, book signings by authors Debi Nelson and Oriole Vane Veldhuis, jewelry, oils, Mineral make-up, pencil drawings, metal chics, artists showcasing metal embossing, tinsel, silhouettes, oil paintings, kites and more. It’s a fun-filled day for the entire family.

Walk Minot

Date: Tuesday, Aug. 4

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Location: Oak Park, meet by the Farmer’s Market parking lot

You Should Know: Walk around Oak Park to see its full summer glory with Walk Minot. All walks last approximately 45 minutes. There is no cost to walk with the group. Wear tennis shoes and bring a water bottle. For more information, call 857-6450 or 837-5114.

Color Dash

Date: Saturday, Aug. 8

Time: 9 a.m. registration, 10:30 a.m. race starts

Location: Roosevelt Park

You Should Know: The Color Dash is a fun, non-competitive 5K run/walk where participants experience a hurricane of color at each kilometer. The Color Dash starts and ends at Roosevelt Park. There will be music, dancing and colors flying at the dash. Half of the proceeds will go to Give 360 and the Minot Area Community Foundation. Register yourself, family or team at cd5k.com.

Prairie Art Show

Dates: Aug. 14-15

Time: 5 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Aug. 15

Location: Metigoshe Christian Center, north of Bottineau

You Should Know: The Prairie Art show is an annual event at the Metigoshe Christian Center north of Bottineau. The show only accepts handmade items; no commercially made products. The featured artist this year is Paulette Pollard, an excellent quilter. She also makes lefse as well as some knitted items. There will also be a variety of different arts: oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, photography, beadwork, crochet and woodwork. Hors d’ouevres will be served Friday evening. The center is air-conditioned.

International Peace Garden

Location: International Peace Garden

You Should Know: There is plenty to see and do at the International Peace Garden. The 55th annual Knights of Columbus field mass and catered meal, Odd Fellows and the Rebekah’s annual picnic and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of N.D. dedication and meeting will be held tody. Also at the International Peace Garden is a conservatory of cacti and flowers, courtyard garden and peacocks, camping and hiking, International Music Camp’s 60th anniversary display, cafe and gift shop.
