Nov. 29, 1944-March 9, 2025 Mesa, Ariz. Karen Ilene (Gjerde) Shaffner passed away peacefully Sunday, March 9, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. She was born Nov. 29, 1944, and raised in rural Minot and graduated from Minot High and Minot State Teachers College. Karen taught many students at McKinley Elementary School in Minot and was a strong supporter of early childhood literacy. She also spent many hours cheering her kids on in hockey arenas, band auditoriums, and school gymnasiums.
