More than 4,000 boxes filled with toys and other gifts left a Minot collection center Monday to begin their journey into the hands of children around the world.First Assembly of God Church in Minot, for the second year, served as collection point for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse. Head Start celebrates 50 years
Minot Head Start has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Head Start program with gusto, director Karen Knowles told members of the Kiwanis on Tuesday.The program, which serves preschoolers with disabilities and from low-income families, has been in Minot since 1968. The Kiwanis is donating funds that will help the local Head Start program afford much-needed laptops.Knowles said during the Kiwanis meeting that the program has measurable benefits for young children. ‘Angels in Adoption’
Rod and Tracey Belzer have cared for 133 foster children during their 16 years as foster parents in Ward County. They also have five daughters.On Tuesday, Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) presented the Belzers, of Minot, with a national Angels in Adoption award for their outstanding commitment to adoption. The presentation was made at the Ward County Courthouse in Minot.Hoeven chose the Belzers for the award from a number of other candidates.
