Dakota Drifters inducted into hall of fame, enjoy performing locally

Each member of the Dakota Drifters band has been inducted into the Dakota Musicians Hall of Fame. When asked what it felt like to be inducted, band member Dick Johnson replied, “It’s humbling. We were surprised when we were nominated and we were totally surprised when we won. It was an incredible experience.” An area favorite band, the group will perform Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Sibyl Center in Stanley. Where are the zoo’s monkeys?

We’ve been seeing warmer temperatures and a lot more guests. The animals have enjoyed both the weather and the many visitors, but the question that keeps coming up is “where are the monkeys?” I guess the sarcastic answer would be that we don’t currently have monkeys at the zoo. We do however have gibbons and lemurs, but maybe that is just splitting hairs. Gibbons are in the ape family and the lemurs are what’s known as prosimians. Minot Symphony Orchestra seeks challenge grant match

The Minot Area Community Foundation (MACF) has awarded a $10,000 challenge grant to the Minot Symphony Orchestra to purchase a five-drum set of Adams Philharmonic Timpani. MACF will match dollar-for-dollar raised up to $10,000 by Aug. 31. The grant was made possible through the Chuck & Madge Westlie Fund. The Minot Symphony Orchestra has encountered a need for a new set of timpani due to the number of groups who use the instrument when performing or rehearsing at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on the Minot State University campus. Fort Stevenson welcomes kite flyers this weekend

GARRISON – Fort Stevenson State Park invites kite flyers of all ages to decorate the sky over the park Saturday through Monday, May 25-27, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each day in celebration of Sky Fest. Fly your own kite at Sky Fest or witness professional kite flyers as they bring in some of the largest kites currently in production. Dinner on the Prairie event recognized

Minot’s 2023 Dinner on the Prairie event was recognized as “Chamber Event of the Year” at the 2024 Mid-America Chamber Executives Conference held this month in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
