Grown-ups to relive school days at Discovery Center event

Magic City Discovery Center invites people to break out their letterman jackets and relive their school-day glory at its Night of Nostalgia: School’s Back in Session for Grown-Ups. The adults-only fundraising event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 6-9 p.m. The event will bring all the best parts of school, minus the homework. Children’s choir to perform Disney musical

The Western Plains Children’s Choir, composed of more than 60 singers in grades 4-8, will be performing the Disney musical, “The Descendants,” in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at Minot State University. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12; 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13; and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. A Minot author will be participating in the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C., this fall as well as participating in readings and discussions at select North Dakota libraries through the Great Reads program. Barb Solberg’s historical fiction, “What We Leave Behind,” and RubyAnn Stiegelmeier’s children’s book, “Sir Rupert and the Battle of the Squirrels,” were selected by the North Dakota State Library’s Center for the Book as North Dakota Great Read titles for 2025. Corps waives day use fees June 16

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has announced it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,600 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of the USACE’s founding day, June 16, and Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services or fees for specialized facilities (group picnic shelters) and events. The June Parent Cafe, “Safe, Affordable Summer Fun,” will be offered online Wednesday, June 25, from noon-1 p.m. Discussion will cover summer safety tips and participants will exchange ideas for affordable family activities in local communities.
