In dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon, October 12, Minot State University (MSU) found a way to remain perfect against in-state rival Jamestown.
The Beaver's Abby Tallman tied it in the final five minutes of regulation, then in the fifth round of a shootout she netted the only shootout goal, lifting the Beavers to a 3-2 comeback win at the Maysa Arena.
The victory makes MSU (4-2-0 overall, 2-2-0 WMCH) a perfect 19-0-0 against their in-state rival.
MSU started off the contest strong as Tori Bear netted her first collegiate goal with 12 minutes, 16 seconds left in the opening period, and there it stayed for more than 20 minutes. Journey Miller and Makenna Beard added assists on Bear's first-period goal.
The Beavers lead disappeared in the second period, though, as Jamestown tied it with 8:19 left in the stanza, then took its first lead of the weekend with 1:42 left before intermission.
Battling to erase the deficit, the Beavers finally tied it with 4:40 left on Tallman's fourth goal this season off assists from Olivia Opheim and Bear, sending the game into overtime.
After five scoreless minutes, the game went to the shootout where MSU goalie Haylie Biever made five straight saves, one better than Jamestown's Makenzie Gibson, who Tallman slipped the puck behind to end the contest.
Biever finished with 36 saves in the win for Minot State, which is off next weekend then continues an 8-game homestand hosting Midland on Saturday, October 26, at 3:45 p.m. and Sunday, October 27, at 1 p.m.

The MSU women's hockey team has become an offensive powerhouse of late.
Finding their rhythm in the attacking zone, the goal-rush continued Friday afternoon for the Beavers who netted a 5-1 win over visiting Jamestown at the Maysa Arena in WMCH action.
Coming off a 13-goal effort last weekend in a pair of wins, MSU (3-2-0 overall, 3-2-0 WMCH) continued to put pucks in the net against the Jimmies (1-2-1, 0-2-1) as Paige Kozak scored her first of two in the contest just past the midway point in the opening period.
Kozak then made it a 2-0 game, scoring 6 minutes, 59 seconds into the second period before Kiran Vugteveen broke up the Beavers shutout bid and made it a 2-1 contest.
It didn't stay a one-goal game for long though as 3:37 later, Makenna Beard netted her first of the season, giving the Beavers a bit of breathing room.
MSU iced the win with a pair of power-play goals in the third period, the first from Krissy Rink with 2:52 gone, then the second was collegiate goal number one for Addison Dyck with just 29 seconds left on the clock.
Maddie Beek, Matayah Metz, Kaitlyn Snyder, Tori Bear, Journey Miller, Olivia Opheim, Dyck, and Rink all had an assist in Friday's win, and Minot State goalie Haylie Biever made 20 saves in the victory.
