Class AA Volleyball: Minot High’s Dufner, Deschamp named all-state members

Minot High setter Mackenzie Dufner had herself a senior season for the records books – literally. Earlier this year, Dufner broke the school record for most assists in a career and finished with more than 2,500 during her time in a Majettes uniform.

Dufner added to her list of achievements with all-WDA honors for the second time and on Wednesday, Nov. 26, she was named first-team all-state by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association. It’s her second all-state honor. Teammate Everette Deschamp was named to the all-state second team.

Dufner, who will be furthering her volleyball career at the University of North Dakota beginning next fall, eclipsed 1,000 assists alone during her senior season. She also led the Majettes with 45 aces. Minot High advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2011, where Dufner finished with 110 assists, 37 digs, six kills and three aces.

Other members of the first team were: Jordan Christofferson (West Fargo Horace), Raina Chwialkowski (West Fargo), Lucy Falk (Jamestown), Abby Fosland (Bismarck Century), Alexis Heinle (Bismarck Century), Eilee McIntosh (West Fargo), Cora Metcalf (West Fargo Sheyenne), Jenna Nelson (Dickinson), Fallon Passanante (Fargo Davies), Brynlie Richman (West Fargo Sheyenne) and Sylvia Taylor (Bismarck Century).

Deschamp was just one of four non-upperclassmen to make the all-state list. The sophomore outside hitter was second on the team in both kills (317) and aces (43) and third in digs (400). Deschamp was the team leader in kills in all three matches at the state tournament, including 19 in Minot High’s consolation semifinal match against West Fargo Horace. Deschamp compiled 40 kills, 53 digs and an ace as the Majettes took sixth at the state tournament.

Other members of the second team were: Baylor Dinger (West Fargo Sheyenne), Carly Hulstein (Fargo Shanley), Lizzy Kunz (Grand Forks Red River), Mataya Messer (Bismarck St. Mary’s), Kendall Mueller (West Fargo Horace), Jetta Peterson (Jamestown), Brooklyn Pudwill (Bismarck Legacy), Aspen Roaldson (Bismarck High), Jordyn Rood (Bismarck High), Audrey Rydell (Fargo North) and Quinn Skari (Fargo Davies).

The list included 17 seniors, three juniors and four sophomores.

Chwialkowski earned the senior athlete of the year designation and West Fargo’s Kelsey Titus was named the coach of the year.
