One inning costs Honeybees, Steam win

La CROSSE, Wis. – The host team used the bottom of the first inning to put up eight runs and the Honeybees outscored the Steam three runs to two for the rest of the game.

Minot scored one run at the top of the sixth and two at the top of the seventh inning but were unable to make up the ground lost in the first inning. La Crosse would add one run at the bottom of the fourth and one more run at the bottom of the sixth inning for the 10-3 win over the visiting Honeybees.

Minot was 9-for-31 at the plate with one error as a team. Cairah Curran was 3-for-4 batting. Shannon Nelson, Sydney Farmer, Caitlyn Dannenfelzer, Jackie Albrecht, Kaitlynne Allen and Trinity Gregg each added a hit in the effort. Albrecht pitched three and two-thirds innings and allowed seven runs on four hits. Kierra Fournier pitched one and one-third innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Jasmine Blizzard pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits.

La Crosse was 9-for-28 batting with three errors as a team. Rachel Mori was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and scored one run. Calli Janik and Teagan Graul were each 2-for-4 at the plate. Lindsey Schultz, Avary Makarewicz and Sydney Schott were each 1-for-3 as well. Mackenzie Willis pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on nine hits. She walked two batters and tallied seven strikeouts.

The Honeybees will play the Madison Night Mares on the road Friday, June 21, and twice on Saturday, June 22, before heading back to Minot for their historic first home game on Tuesday, June 25, at Corbett Field.
