Willmar needs no comeback in rout of Hot Tots

On Sunday night, the Minot Hot Tots saw the visiting Willmar Stingers storm back from seven runs down to steal an 11-8 victory from the home team. The Stingers didn’t need a comeback last night though, as a nine-run fourth inning left little doubt to the outcome, as Willmar routed Minot 12-0.

Willmar jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a Jonathan Lane double that scored Luke Williams. Jordan Sagedahi scored thee batters later on a Kristofer Hokenson putout.

With the bases loaded in the fourth, Duncan Lutz walked Kristofer Hokenson to score Kyle Payne. A Kevin Fitzer double to left field brought in two runs to make the score 5-0. Two batters later, Scott Anderson would be hit by a pitch, scoring Fizter. Stone Miyao, Scott Anderson, Sagedahi and Luke Williams all added runs in the inning, making the score 11-0 after four.

Willmar’s Jonathan Lane scored on a sacrifice fly by Anderson in the top of the seventh to make the score 12-0.

Mitch Gutknecht got the win for the Stingers, pitching six shutout innings, while giving up only three hits. He struck out nine, while giving up no walks. Alex Clemons threw three hitless innings of relief for Willmar, striking out three.

Rawley Hector took the loss for Minot, giving up five runs (all earned) on five hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three. Duncan Lutz came on in the top of the fourth and gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits, while striking out three against one walk. Grant Faris allowed one run on one in 1 1/3 innings. He had one strike out and two walks.

Thomas Rollauer led Minot batters, connecting on a single in the first and a double in the third. Gavin Bennett added a single in the bottom of the fifth.

Other Minot pitchers seeing action were Noah Miller and Paxton Miller. N. Miller worked a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one against no walks. Paxton Miller closed the game in the ninth for Minot, giving up one hit while not surrendering any runs.

The Hot Tots dropped their fourth straight game and fall to 1-7 on the year. Minot will continue their current home stand on Thursday night when they take on the Minnesota Mud Puppies in the opener of a two game set. The Hot Tots will ask everyone to “Vote for Tate,” as they celebrate Napoleon Dynamite Night, with first pitch at 6:35 p.m.
