Nissen named North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year

Sean Williams/MDN Eli Nissen (18) of Minot High on the mound during a game that occurred earlier this season at Corbett Field.

Even though Minot baseball had their season come to an end, the accolades continue to pile up for starting pitcher Eli Nissen. On Friday. It was announced that Nissen was named the 2022-23 Gatorade North Dakota Baseball Player of the Year.

In what was a very decorated year for Nissen, the southpaw threw multiple no-hitters before hurling a perfect game during the West Region Tournament.

Through six appearances (five starts), Nissen tossed 23.0 innings for the Magi, while posting a perfect 0.00 ERA and allowing one run (zero earned) on three hits with one walk and 54 strikeouts on the year.

Being a nightmare for opposing hitters, Nissen held opponents to a .042 batting average while he was on the mound.

It’s not just on the mound where Nissen shined during his time at Minot, as he maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.

With his prep career coming to an end, Nissen’s next chapter of his baseball journey will begin this fall when he heads to Creighton University to play for the Bluejays.
