Majettes tennis wraps up strong showing at WDA tourney

MANDAN – Saturday wrapped up the final day of the girls’ tennis West Region Tournament, where Minot had a variety of singles and doubles matches scheduled to push for a strong finish of the individual tournament.

Halle Mattson and Sidney Ressler made semifinal appearances in the singles championship bracket. Ressler ended the day taking third place, while Mattson was the runner-up in the tournament.

In the semifinals, Ressler fell to Sophia Felderman of Mandan, 6-2, 6-4, which lined Ressler up to face Cambrya Kraft of Legacy in the third-place game. Ressler got the victory in that round, defeating Kraft 6-2, 6-1, to earn a third-place finish in the singles tournament.

Mattson matched up with Kraft in the semifinals, where Mattson won, 6-3, 6-2, to move on to the championship match. In the championship, Mattson fell to Felderman of Mandan, 6-1, 6-3, to secure the runner-up finish.

Over in the singles consolation bracket, Kyllie Fettig still had a chance to make some noise and she did just that. In the semifinals, Fettig defeated Maria Barrett of Legacy, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the fifth-place game. Wrapping up a successful run, Fettig took fifth place by defeating Peyton Kovash of Bismarck, 7-5, 6-3.

The doubles bracket featured Sienna Ronning and Grace Olson still in action on Saturday, where they were able to earn a fourth-place finish in the doubles tournament.

After putting up a fight but falling to Maya Kubsad and Erika Lee of Century, 6-7 (3), 6-1, 7-5, Si. Ronning and G. Olson met Aleah McPherson and Chelsa Krom of Legacy in the third-place game.

Taking fourth place following a 7-5, 6-4 loss to McPherson and Krom, Si. Ronning and G. Olson put forth a good showing and represented Minot well in the doubles tournament.
