Dissette has a new name: Mr. Basketball

Sean Williams/MDN – Darik Dissette (13) of Minot High rises for a jump shot during a game at Magic City Campus earlier this year.

In a week that saw Minot High senior Darik Dissette earn the Gatorade Player of the Year award, the accolades kept coming. On Saturday night during the Class B Boys Basketball State Tournament, it was announced that Dissette was named North Dakota’s Mr. Basketball for the 2022-23 season.

Among a group of six finalists that consisted of Tyson Enget (Powers Lake-Burke Central), Ayden Stainbrook (North Border), Zach Kraft (Grand Forks Red River), Alex Dvorak (Dickinson), and Ryan Erikson (Century), Dissette received all 27 first-place votes and was the unanimous winner.

After being named Mr. Basketball, Dissette becomes the fourth player from Minot High to win the award, joining Bart Manson (1991), Kenny Younger (1996), and Jeff Brandt (1999) as the group of Magi to take home North Dakota’s most coveted individual basketball award.

Finishing his senior season by averaging 27.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, Dissette helped the Magi earn a fifth-place finish at state. During the season, he became the all-time scoring leader in Minot High history and set the school record for most points scored in a single game.

Putting together a prep career that was nothing short of exceptional, Dissette will leave Minot High as one of the best to ever put on the maroon and gold uniform. His time as a member of the basketball team has come to an end, but the impact he left on the program will be remembered for a long time.
