MSU celebrates Senior Day win

The Minot State men’s basketball team kept Minnesota-Crookston to just 20 percent from 3-point range in a 4-for-20 shooting performance on the way to an 87-53 win over the Golden Eagles at home Saturday.

Leading the game in double figures for the Beavers (10-12, 7-11) were Jalen Cook, with 12 points. Caleb Van De Griend with 11 points and nine rebounds off of the bench, and Khari Broadway who kept things hot with 11 points.

Minot State collected 41 rebounds in Saturday’s game compared to Minnesota-Crookston’s 24, led by Van De Griend’s nine boards. The Beavers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 12 rebounds into 20 second chance points.

Minot State forced 15 Minnesota-Crookston turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Saturday’s game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 24 points on the offensive end of the floor. Javeon Tolliver led the way individually with two steals.

Three seniors, Cam’ron Dunfee, Drew Pearson (4/4 FT), and Eduardo Fiorotto (1/2 FT) also contributed to Minot State’s Victory.

How It Happened

It was all like a blur. Minot State jumped out to to a 9-7 advantage, went on a 15-0 run with 15:36 left in the first half, added in a three from Ben Bohl to increase its lead to 24-7 and then added 11 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 46-18 advantage.

Minot State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 46 total points.

Coming back into the second half; Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 70-33 with 8:16 to go in the contest. The Golden Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but it was clear as the Beavers cruised the rest of the way that the victory was Minot State’s today. (87-53).

Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 41 points.

The Minot State Beavers will play two more games against St.Cloud State University and University of Minnesota Duluth (February 10 & 11), before returning to play last home game against Minnesota State University, Moorhead, February 16th 5:30 p.m.
