MSU sprinter Green represents Guam in World Athletic Championships

As he takes part in the World Athletic Championships that commenced at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon on Friday, sprinter Joseph Green will have more than just Minot State and the Beavers men’s track and field program pulling for him.

Chosen by his home country of Guam to represent them in the international competition, the recent Beavers sprinter and Entrepreneurship major will compete in the men’s 200 meters as preliminary heats for that event begin on Monday, July 18 at 5:05 p.m. (PT).

Prior to arriving in Minot to spend his collegiate days as a student-athlete and standout for the men’s track and field team at MSU, Green originally hailed from Yigo, the northernmost village of the United States Territory of Guam. The largest village on the island in terms of area, Yigo is also the home to Anderson Air Force Base. As of numbers collected during the 2020 census, Yigo boasts a population of 19,339 citizens.

Cementing his legacy within the Beavers men’s track and field program, Green holds the top time for the outdoor 200 meters (21.74 seconds) and indoor 300 meters (36.67 seconds) in the NCAA Division II-era for Minot State. Furthermore, as it pertains to Minot State’s overall NCAA history, Green holds top-three times in the indoor 200 meters (2nd in 22.67 seconds), the outdoor 100 meters (2nd in 10.76 seconds), and outdoor 400 meters (3rd in 49.59 seconds).

Despite being separated by nearly 6,557 miles, it is safe to assume that regardless of whether on the island nation of Guam or within Minot and the Minot State University athletics community, Green will have his fair share of supporters as he looks to bring home a victory.
