Tauros ready for NAHL Draft this afternoon

This afternoon, the Minot Minotauros will participate in the 2022 NAHL Draft. As it currently stands, the Minotauros own the ninth and tenth overall pick in the first round and have a total of six selections they can make in the draft.

To be eligible for the draft, amateur players must be younger than 21 years of age as of Dec. 31, 2022, are not currently on an NAHL roster, have played in less than 10 NAHL regular season or playoff games if they are on a roster, or have not accepted a tender from an NAHL team before the draft are all the necessary requirements prospective players must meet.

During last year’s draft, the Minotauros made six selections spread out among five positions, as they looked to add depth to their roster at the time. Depth is something that head coach and general manager Cody Campbell is looking to address once again in today’s draft.

“We will look to add depth and impactful players to our line up through the draft. We feel like we have a good core group of returning players and hope to add to that group here in the draft,” Campbell tells the Minot Daily News.

There is a lot that goes into the draft process. It takes extensive scouting work on what the player can bring to the organization, and teams have specific attributes that they look for in a player when they go through the evaluation process.

“Number one thing for us when we are evaluating and recruiting is how competitive the player is. We want to be tenacious and have a group of guys that love to win. Our city and fans deserve to see that effort and competitive nature from our team every night they watch us play,” Campbell said.

In addition to on ice performance, Campbell makes it a point of emphasis in the evaluation process to make sure that he is bringing in high character people to the Minot community as well.

“We also want good people here, young men that are going to make an impact in our community during their time in Minot, so we also take heavy consideration into that aspect as well.”

The Minotauros will have the opportunity to welcome new players that check off all their boxes this afternoon. The draft will take place at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on HockeyTV. Fans will also be able to see live picks come in on nahldraft.com.
