MSU women’s hockey leaps to No. 2 in ACHA DI rankings

A successful week on the road has earned the Minot State women’s hockey team the No. 2 ranking in the nation.

The Beavers, who won five of six games on the road against top 10 foes last week, jumped three spots to No. 2 in the latest ACHA Division I women’s hockey poll released Tuesday night. The ranking is the highest this season for the Minot State women.

Minot State beat then-No. 4 Lindenwood (Mo.) 4-3 in overtime Jan. 16, igniting a five-game win streak on the road. The Beavers added 5-0 and 4-1 wins at then-sixth-ranked McKendree on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 18 and 19, and wrapped up the road win streak with 3-1 and 1-0 victories at Maryville last Friday and Saturday.

The impressive stretch helped the Beavers (19-4-0 overall, 11-2-0 WMCH) to jump past Adrian (Mich.), Lindenwood, and Indiana Tech in this week’s poll. Adrian slipped one spot and is ranked third in the nation followed by Lindenwood and Indiana Tech, which both fell one spot to Nos. 4 and 5.

McKendree, which the Beavers beat twice last week, dropped to No. 8, and Maryville, which Minot State also topped twice, remained at No. 9.

The Beavers will complete the regular season at home for six games, a homestand that begins this weekend when the Beavers host the University of Colorado on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Maysa Arena, and on Saturday at 5 p.m.
