MHS swim and dive dominates at Minot Invite
On Saturday, the Minot High boys swim and dive club won its eighth straight meet to start the season as they blew away the competition at the Minot Invite.
Winning 11 of the 12 total events, Minot far outpaced the field with a team score of 663. By comparison, the event’s second place team was Bismarck with 442 points.
In the opening event, Minot’s group of Kalen Hill, Griffin Osborn, Alex King and Alex Prestwich won the 200-yard medley relay with a combined time of 1:45.83. Then in the 200 freestyle, it was senior Grant Schaeffer with a winning time of 1:48.94 for the Magi, good for second-team all-state.
In the 200 IM, fellow Minot senior Peyton Bartsch swam a top time of 2:11.48. In the 50 free, it was King who tallied Minot’s third win of the day at 22.71 seconds. The Magi continued their winning streak in the one-meter dive as junior Jaron Coombs collected 20 team points with his top score of 410.05.
In the 100 butterfly, Bartsch won his second individual race of the day as he clocked in with a time of 56.39 seconds. King also notched his second individual win in the 100 free at 49.22 seconds. Meanwhile, junior Jaxon Reinke paced the field in the 500 free at 5:14.58. In the 200 freestyle relay, it was Bartsch, Logan Hill, Reinke and Schaeffer who topped the competition at 1:32.07.
Minot’s 10th win of the day came courtesy of Osborn as he recorded a time of 1:07.62 in the 100 breaststroke. The Magi capped off the competition with a win in the 400 freestyle relay with the group of Schaeffer, Bartsch, Reinke and King combining for a time of 3:20.52.
Next up on the schedule, Minot plans to travel to West Fargo Sheyenne for its next dual meet, a non-conference affair, this Friday at 5 p.m.
