MSU soccer wins two in a row; beats Sioux Falls 2-1
Volleyball loses Saturday, drops to 0-10
Following a 2-1 road victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, the Minot State women’s soccer team improved its season mark to 5-2 with another win over the weekend. On Sunday, the Beavers were 2-1 winners over Sioux Falls.
In their latest win, Minot State scored both of its goals in the first half. At the 9:50 mark, fifth-year senior Melanie van Walstijn netted her first goal of the season on an unassisted play. Then at 26:59, fellow fifth-year senior Sofia Lewis recorded her fourth goal of the year on an assist from Tiffany Schennum.
All told, a busy Beaver offense produced 11 shots on goal in the opening period. Meanwhile, Sioux Falls did not register a single shot on goal after one half of play.
Up next on the schedule, MSU plans to return to the friendly confines of Herb Parker Stadium for a match against Winona State on Friday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. It will be the Beavers first home game since a 3-1 loss to Regis back on Sept. 3.
Meanwhile, the Minot State volleyball team continues to struggle as they lost to Winona State at home on Saturday in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-16. MSU will look for its first win of the season on Tuesday in a road contest against the University of Mary. Start time for that match is slated for 6 p.m. in Bismarck.
