Majettes miss out on state bid; place seventh at WDAs

Class B Heart River places first on Day 1 at state

On Monday, the Minot Majettes girls golf team took to the Riverwood Golf Course in Bismarck as part of the WDA West Regional Tournament.

There, they earned a seventh-place team score of 373. Unfortunately for Magi fans, Minot’s golf season is now over as only the top six teams advance to the state tournament.

Minot placed behind overall winner Bismarck Century (323), Mandan (330), Bismarck (360), Dickinson and Bismarck Legacy (361) and Williston (364). Individually, Mandan’s Anna Huettl took first at regionals with a score of 76 while teammate Aysia Mettler finished a stroke behind that pace to earn second.

Next up on the golf schedule will be the Class A state tournament. The two-day affair is set to take place Oct. 4-5 at the Edgewood Golf Course in Fargo.

Meanwhile in Class B girls golf Monday, Heart River finds itself in first-place after the opening day of competition at the state meet in Carrington. With a team score of 325, Heart River holds a 22-shot lead over second-place Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter (347).

Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock is in third (355), followed by Kindred (356) and Oak Grove (363) rounding out the top five. Individually, Grafton’s Ainsley McLain leads the field after the first day with a score of 73, one stroke better than Kindred’s Avery Bartels who currently stands in second.

Class B state competition plans to wrap up on Tuesday at the Crossroads Golf Course in Carrington.
