Lions win big at homecoming; beat Stanley 37-7

Fifth straight win for Bishop Ryan

Robert Brewer/MDN Bishop Ryan starting quarterback Jett Lundeen (9) looks to make a play outside the pocket during the Lions home contest against the Stanley Blue Jays on Friday night at Herb Parker Stadium.

The Bishop Ryan Lions (5-1) successfully defended their home turf during homecoming week by downing the Stanley Blue Jays 37-7 at Herb Parker Stadium on Friday night. In the process, Bishop Ryan extended its winning streak to five games.

The Lions wasted no time offensively as they marched right down the field and reached the end zone on their opening drive. The scoring drive was capped off by a rushing touchdown from senior running back Caden Dauphinais, followed by a successful extra point attempt to give the Lions an early 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing Stanley drive, the Blue Jays were met by a fierce Bishop Ryan defense. Forced into a fourth-down situation deep inside their own territory, Stanley elected to punt. With the Stanley punter positioned in his own end zone, the snap sailed over his head and out of bounds which resulted in a safety for the Lions.

Later in the first quarter, both teams exchanged turnovers before Bishop Ryan scored its next touchdown of the game on a short three-yard rush from Dauphinais. With 3:49 left in the opening period, the Lions had already built a commanding 16-0 lead. By halftime, Bishop Ryan had blown the game open with two more end zone trips and took a 30-0 advantage into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Dauphinais added another touchdown to his tally as the Lions extended their lead to 37-0 at that point en route to a blowout victory. Up next for the Lions, they plan to travel to New Town for a matchup with Eagles on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

As for the Blue Jays, their record falls to 2-5 on the year and they will be on the road in their next game against Des Lacs-Burlington on Friday, Oct. 8.
