Dogs start three-game set with Trappers

Robert Brewer/MDN Sabre Dogs standout Beau Brewer hits an RBI infield single in the first inning of Friday night's game at Corbett Field.

After earning a sweep in their last series, the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs (13-7) took the field Friday evening to start another three-game home set. This time, they faced off against the Pierre Trappers who entered play with a season mark of 6-12.

The first inning saw each team produce one run on two hits. In the bottom of the first, Beau Brewer got the Sabre Dogs on the board by legging out an RBI infield single that scored Cadyn Schwabe from third base. This run tied the game at 1-1.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when Brewer again came through at the plate. His hit with the bases loaded scored two Sabre Dogs to push the score to 3-1 in favor of Souris Valley. Then in the sixth inning, Sabre Dogs outfielder Jordan Williams extended the lead to 4-1 on the strength of a solo home run which happened to be his second long ball of the season.

The Trappers scratched across a run of their own in the subsequent frame as the score stood at 4-2 in favor of Souris Valley going into the seventh-inning stretch. After the break, Souris Valley blew the game open with a massive 10-run inning. At the time of print, the Sabre Dogs enjoyed a 14-4 advantage in the ninth inning. A full box score recap of this game will be available in the next edition of The Minot Daily News.

Souris Valley and Pierre plan to meet again for the second game of the three-game set on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in Minot, and wrap up the series on Sunday at 5:30.
