Tauros fall 4-3 to Wings in Game 2

Robert Brewer/MDN Seen here in a home game earlier this season, Kyle Kukkonen scored a goal against Aberdeen on Saturday to give the Tauros an early 2-0 first period lead. As it turned out, it would not be enough as the Wings came back to win 4-3 and take a 2-0 advantage in the first-round playoff series.

On Saturday night, the Minot Minotauros suffered their second loss in as many days to the Aberdeen Wings, losing this game 4-3 on the road.

Things got off to a promising start for the Tauros as Tyler Kostelecky and Kyle Kukkonen each scored goals late in the first period to give Minot a 2-0 advantage on the scoreboard. After 20 minutes of play, the score held at 2-0 in favor of Minot.

Although Aberdeen got on the board late in the second, the Tauros still held a 2-1 lead going into the third. From that point on, the wheels fell off for Minot as Aberdeen scored three unanswered the goals in the final period, including two on power play opportunities. A Blaine Warnert power play goal with eight seconds to go was academic as the Tauros found themselves on the short end of a 4-3 final score.

For the game, Aberdeen collected 37 shots on goal compared to 30 for the Tauros. The Wings were 2-of-6 on power plays on the evening while Minot was 1-of-3 on the night. Tauros goaltender Keenan Rancier stopped 33 of 37 shots while Jake Sibell of Aberdeen made 27 saves on 30 shots.

Now trailing in the series 2-0 and facing elimination, Minot plans to face Aberdeen at the Maysa Arena on Thursday, May 27. Start time for that game is slated for 7:05 p.m.
