Tauros end season with fourth straight loss

Will face Aberdeen on Friday in first round of playoffs

On Saturday night, the Minot Minotauros (23-25-6-2) closed out the regular season with a loss against the Aberdeen Wings for the second straight night, losing the game by a final score of 4-1.

Minot fell behind very early in the game as they trailed 2-0 less than three minutes into the contest. Payton Matsui of Aberdeen added a third goal at the 8:25 mark to put the Wings ahead 3-0 at the end of the first period.

Minot scored its only goal of the game at the 1:50 mark of the second as forward Tyler Kostelecky notched his 17th score of the season. He was assisted on the play by Ethan Schmunk and Robert Kincaid. Later in the period, Aberdeen scored its fourth and final goal of the game.

By virtue of Minot’s fourth straight loss, combined with a Minnesota Wilderness (25-27-1-3) victory over Bismarck on the final day of the regular season, the Tauros drop from third to fourth in the NAHL Central Division standings.

As a result, Minot will now matchup defending champion Aberdeen in the first round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs. The first game of the best-of-five series is slated for 7:15 p.m. this Friday in Aberdeen.
