NDSU’s John Riley named FCS Video Coordinator of the Year

The Collegiate Sports Video Association named John Riley, director of football video operations at North Dakota State University, the 2020-21 FCS Video Coordinator of the Year.

Riley was selected by his peers in the Football Championship Subdivision. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual CSVA banquet on May 19, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas.

The Bob Matey award is presented to the video coordinator who displays innovation, determination, perseverance, and technical skill as portrayed by the late Bob Matey, legendary video coordinator from Texas A&M.

Riley joined North Dakota State’s football staff in 2019 and was part of a historic season in his first year with the Bison. NDSU won its eighth FCS national championship in nine years completing the first 16-0 season in college football since 1894.

Riley previously worked as the director of football video operations at Western Kentucky for four seasons (2013-16), where he earned his first Video Coordinator of the Year award in 2015 as a member of Conference USA. He spent three years as the assistant athletics video coordinator at Mississippi State (2010-12) and two years as the football video coordinator at Arkansas State (2008-09).

Riley graduated from Arkansas State in May 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and earned a master’s of business administration from Arkansas State in December 2009. He and his wife, Ashley, have two children, Nile and Amelia.
