NDSU’s Lyle named Summit League Softball Pitcher of the Week

North Dakota State’s Lainey Lyle was named Summit League softball Pitcher of the Week by the league office on Monday.

It is Lyle’s first career player of the week honor and the first for NDSU this season. The sophomore from Middleton, Idaho pitched her first collegiate no-hitter in Saturday’s 3-0 win over South Dakota to help the Bison complete a doubleheader sweep.

She tied a season-high with seven strikeouts and allowed only two base runners in an 89-pitch effort for her fifth complete game in seven starts this season. The no-hitter was the 31st in NDSU history and 14th in Division I play since 2005.

Second-place North Dakota State (12-20, 7-5 Summit) plans to step out of league play this weekend to host Big 12 Conference opponent Iowa State in a three-game series. The Bison and Cyclones will play single games at 4 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and noon Sunday at Tharaldson Park.
