Three Panthers recognized as all-district players

In addition to punching their ticket to the Class B girls state tournament on Thursday, a trio of Glenburn Panthers have been honored for their individual excellence on the court.

Seniors Nadia Post and McKenna Rolland and junior Lorelei McIver were named to the All-District 12 team. Meanwhile, it was Rolland who captured the Region 6 Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year Award. Both McIver and Rolland also made the all-region team as well.

The Minot Daily News asked Glenburn’s standout players how they felt about the prestigious accolades, and what were the keys to having such a breakout campaign. Here is what the players had to say via email.

MDN: What was your first reaction to the news that you were named as an all-district performer?

McIver: I was super excited to hear about it, there are a lot of amazing players in our district, and I am proud of McKenna and Nadia and their accomplishments too.

Rolland: I was thrilled to be a part of a fantastic group of outstanding basketball players.

Post: At first, I was surprised but mostly grateful.

MDN: What has been the key to your individual success this year?

McIver: Mentality, it has a big part in playing basketball. Coach Pederson has always told us that, and it’s helped me a lot. After a while, you notice yourself correcting your mentality and I feel it makes people better.

Rolland: Working hard in practice and always pushing myself no matter how frustrating it is.

Post: I got a lot more confident this year, and I started shooting the ball more with encouragement from my coaches.

MDN: What has been the biggest difference in this year’s team compared to last year’s?

McIver: Both years had amazing connection and chemistry, but i think we all just clicked and knew what we expected from each other and held each and every one of us accountable.

Rolland: This year I feel like our team has a better family type connection and we can make each other better every practice without it being personal.

Post: We’re able to be the team we are this year because of the efforts of last year’s team.

MDN: What expectations do you have for the rest of the season?

McIver: I think that we just need to play game by game and work as hard as we can, and I will be proud of how we end the season no matter the outcome.

Rolland: I hope that we can keep going on this fun winning season we are having with this amazing group of girls who I am honored to call my teammates.

Post: I expect us to play our best at state.

MDN: (Rolland only)- With Nadia Post planning to play basketball at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, are you also going to continue your basketball career after Glenburn?

Rolland: No I will not be continuing my basketball career as I have signed to NDSCS for volleyball.

MDN: (Rolland only)- What did it mean to you to be named the district’s most outstanding senior?

Rolland: I have been working for that award since I was a fifth grader and to get it makes me feel honored. But I couldn’t do it without these amazing girls and coached by my side.

MDN: (McIver only)- Being a junior now, what are your expectations for Glenburn girls basketball next year?

McIver: I think that losing three key players is going to be difficult considering how amazing they all are but i know we have girls that won’t be scared to step up next year and we know how hard we’re going to have to work but i know we will work as hard as we can.
