MSU basketball, hockey go 8-0 over weekend

In the span of two days, the Minot State basketball and hockey programs combined to go 8-0 on Friday

and Saturday.

In men’s hockey, the Beavers (11-2-1) handled Midland 7-4 at the Maysa Arena on Friday, and then dominated the Warriors to the tune of 14-4 at home on Saturday. The 2019 national champion Beavers are slated to travel to Bottineau for its next contest on Friday.

Meanwhile, the MSU women’s team (7-1, 2-0) had a pair of closer battles against Midland, but still managed to come out victorious in both meetings. Minot State recorded a 3-1 road victory on Friday to earn its first conference win of the year. Then, MSU outlasted the Warriors in overtime, 2-1. Now winners of three straight, the Beavers look to challenge conference rival Lindenwood in a pair of home games on Feb. 13 and 14.

In men’s basketball, the Beavers secured a two-game sweep of Minnesota Crookston, beating the Golden Eagles on the road 72-61 on Friday, and followed up with a 77-72 win on Saturday. Now 4-4 on the year, including 2-2 within the NSIC conference, MSU plans to host Bemidji State for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday.

In women’s hoops, the Beavers protected home court in both games against the Golden Eagles, winning 76-45 on Friday at the Minot State Dome, and 59-47 on Saturday. MSU improved its season record to 2-4 overall, and 2-2 in conference play. Up next, Minot State is scheduled for a two-game road set against Bemidji State on Friday and Saturday.
