Minot defeats Bismarck 4-3 to end losing skid

Robert Brewer/MDN Carter Korpi, pictured here controlling the puck in a home game against Bismarck on Friday evening, was the star of the show in Minot's last game with two goals in a 4-3 victory over the Bobcats on Saturday.

The Minot Minotauros ended their four-game losing streak on Saturday when they beat the Bismarck Bobcats on the road 4-3.

The Minotauros offense got off to a fast start as Minot forward Kyle Kukkonen scored his first goal of the season on an unassisted play at the 3:42 mark of the opening period. Then in the second, Minot’s Cade Stibbe and Carter Korpi each scored goals less than a minute apart to take a commanding 3-1 lead at the 9:06 mark. Stibbe’s goal, also his first of the year, was assisted by Kaiden Scott and Will Crull. Meanwhile, Korpi’s score was assisted by defenseman Cole Stofflet.

From that point, Bismarck battled back with two goals of their own including a power play score from defenseman Will Magnuson to even things up at 3-3 in the final period. With just 2:24 left in the game, Korpi struck again for his second goal of the night to clinch a Minot victory on the strength of a Jack Westlund assist.

For the game, Minot went 0-for-2 in power play opportunities while Bismarck went 1-for-2. Both teams committed four penalties apiece, and Minot goalie Keenan Rancier played the entire game and stopped 31 of 34 shots on goal for the evening.

Now 5-6 on the year, Minot is scheduled to go up against the undefeated Aberdeen Wings (12-0) in a two-game set on Dec. 11 and 12 at the Maysa Arena. Both games are slated for an 8:05 p.m. start time.
