Sabre Dogs jump on Sodbusters, earn 8-3 victory

HASTINGS, Neb. — A five-run second inning helped the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs (23-21) capture an 8-3 win over the Hastings Sodbusters (23-22) on Wednesday evening. Two additional insurance runs in the top of the third gave the Sabre Dogs ample breathing room.

Sebastian Murillo started the rally with an RBI single in the second frame. Mason Dinesen followed with a single to the outfield.

After a Hastings error on Dinesen’s hit, Murillo and Nolan Monthei wheeled around the bases and scored runs. Bo McClintock’s single brought home Dinesen and Josh Solomon.

Another Murillo RBI single in the top of the third scored Eddie Satisky. During Justin Cooper’s at-bat, Chauncey Callier came home on an error at home plate.

Errors continued to plague Hastings, as the Sodbusters finished with four miscues in the contest. After Hastings scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Cooper scored an error in the top of the sixth.

The Sodbusters added two runs in the bottom half of that frame, but those tallies were not enough.

Souris Valley starting pitcher Austin Glaze finished his six-inning outing after allowing just three Hastings hits. Glaze struck out seven Sodbusters in the game.

Hastings starter Evans Hendricks surrendered seven runs and seven walks in four innings of work.

The teams will conclude the series at 6:35 p.m. this evening.
