Sabre Dogs fall to Trappers, 9-1

PIERRE, S.D. — A steady offensive output helped the Pierre Trappers claim a 9-1 victory over the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs on Thursday evening. The squads split the two-game series.

The Sabre Dogs (9-9) scored their lone run on Justin Cooper’s RBI single in the fifth inning. The Trappers (9-12) never trailed in the contest.

Three runs in the first three innings gave Pierre the early advantage. Both teams scored one run apiece in the fifth inning.

When the game reached the latter stages, the Trappers made their biggest statements. A four-run eighth inning helped Pierre run away with the victory.

Notably, Pierre starter Ethan Skuija racked up 13 strikeouts in just six innings of work. Skuija allowed five hits and took the win.

Souris Valley starter Marcelo Terrazas was tagged with the loss. The Trappers accumulated 14 hits in the game.

The Sabre Dogs will return to Corbett Field for a four-game homestand with the Badlands Big Sticks. This evening’s game will begin at 7:05 p.m.
