Alex’s Tale of the Tape #816, Date: Nov. 21, 2017

The Bishop Ryan wrestling team dominated its home opener with a pair of wins over Beulah-Hazen, 66-18, and Harvey-Wells County, 70-6.

Against Beulah-Hazen, all 14 matches were decided by pins or forfeits. The Lions benefited from five forfeit wins and got pins from Wesley Harvey, Kersey Harris, Murphy Lipp, Kaleb Beeter, Hayden Schall and Keegan Henjum.

Ryan kept its momentum rolling with five straight pins to open the team dual against HWC. The only win for the Hornets came at 220 pounds with Bailey Lawson picking up a pin.

“The kids were aggressive,” Ryan head coach Steve Lipp said. “We didn’t sit back and wait. I thought we were taking the offense in almost every match. So, I’m really happy with what I saw tonight.”

Alex’s Tale of the Tape #1,148, Date: May 21, 2018

The Minot High School girls soccer team prepares for a WDA Tournament championship game against Bismarck St. Mary’s.

Two weeks before, the top-seeded Majettes were handed their first loss of the season by the Saints, 3-1. Led by top goal scorer Allison Lepp with 19 points (14 goals, five assists), Minot was out for revenge in the first-ever girls West Region Tournament.

“I think it’s going to be a very quality game,” MHS head coach Matt Pfau said. “I think it’s a good thing for us that it is (against) the one team that beat us this year. We will be plenty motivated to play. We just have to be ourselves. I thought we made some mental mistakes when we played them (two weeks ago).”

Minot ended up winning 1-0. Lepp scored the lone goal off a free kick.

The scoreboard operator was kept busy in a 66-37 road win for the Minot High School football team over West Fargo Sheyenne in the opening round of the 2017 Class 11AAA playoffs.

Everybody got in on the action as the defenses struggled to keep up on a chilly Friday night in West Fargo. Senior quarterback Creighton Rudolph threw four touchdowns and ran in another. Receiver Peyton Lamoureux found the end zone multiple times.

But, the play of the game belonged to lineman Logan Krueger with an improbable 85-yard pick-six.

“I saw the quarterback fake the handoff to the running back,” Krueger said. “I dropped back, read the quarterback’s eyes and it just ended up in my hands. Off I went. I got some good blocks from the boys up front, and I just had to get down the line before anybody could catch me.”
