No. 2 MSU women’s hockey ends weekend road trip with 3-3 tie

FREMONT, Neb. — After extending its winning streak to 14 games on Friday with a 6-3 win, the No. 2-ranked Minot State women’s hockey team ended its weekend road trip with a sour 3-3 draw against No. 9-ranked Midland University on Saturday.

The Beavers (15-4-2) led 2-0 after the first period with goals coming from Story Navrot and Mackenzie Balogh.

Midland’s Mackenzie Bertolas pulled a goal back four and a half minutes into the second period.

The two-goal cushion was restored by MSU’s Ensley Fendelet.

Mylie Ketterson and Margaret Marcotte came through for the Warriors to force overtime.

A scoreless extra frame ended the game in an unsatisfactory draw.

Goaltender Shelby Tornato got the start in net for the Beavers and made 32 saves. Midland outshot MSU 35-23.

The Beavers have next weekend off. Next up, MSU will travel to Minnesota to face the Gophers on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23 for its final two conference games of the season.
