Minotauros smacked by Wings again

The Minot Minotauros ended February on a rough note. The Central Division-leading Aberdeen Wings strolled into Maysa Arena this weekend and walloped the Minotauros twice. After a 7-2 loss on Friday, Saturday wasn’t much better as Minot suffered a 5-1 defeat.

The Minotauros (25-15-7) have slipped to fourth in the Central Division standings with 13 games remaining. Minot will have to hold off the Minnesota Wilderness to maintain the last NAHL playoff spot.

The Minotauros have a four-point cushion and three games in hand.

Minot let Saturday’s game slip away in the third period. Aberdeen scored three times in the final frame.

Five different Wings scored in the contest: Cade Neilson, Spencer Schneider, Jack Powell, Mack Byers and Jake Beaune.

Joeseph Harguindeguy scored Minot’s lone goal in the middle of the second period to even the score at 1-1.

The Wings narrowly outshot the Minotauros, 29-27.

A total of 21 penalties were issued, which led to eight power plays. The man-advantage helped the Wings more. Aberdeen went 2-for-3 on the power play, while Minot failed to score on five extra-man chances.

The Minotauros are scheduled to play 11 games in March, starting with a road doubleheader against the St. Cloud Blizzard on March 6-7.
