Magi swim & dive takes Century Invite’s top spot

BISMARCK — A week removed from its win in West Fargo, the Minot High School boys swim and dive team rattled off another victory at the Century Invite on Saturday.

Minot’s 499 points cemented the win in the 12-team event. Host Century finished second with 312 points at the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center in Bismarck.

Swim

Minot’s team of Jaxon Reinke (27.25), Jack Wolsky (28.05), Barrett Bryant (24.98) and Zac Spaulding (22.28) edged out Fargo South for a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The Magicians dropped 0.37 seconds off their seed time.

Alexander King (1:50.68) captured third place in the 200-yard freestyle event. Fargo South’s Eric Anderson (1:45.82) earned the top spot.

William Walker-Rozo (2:05.42) contributed another third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley event. Kolden Kringen (2:04.06) won first place for Williston.

Spaulding and Fargo South’s Anthony Hollingsworth competed in a close 50-yard freestyle. Spaulding won the event with a final time of 22.43, while Hollingsworth tallied a 22.58.

Reinke (56.48) kept Minot’s momentum going in the 100-yard butterfly. He locked up second place, while West Fargo Sheyenne’s Vaughn Raimo (56.25) won the event.

Minot’s Dominic Yoder (49.84) finished third in the 100-yard freestyle. Anderson won his second race of the day after recording a 47.06.

Walker-Rozo (5:20.13) was the only Magician to finish in the top five spots of the 500-yard freestyle. Walker-Rozo nipped Dickinson’s Taven Wilson (5:20.17) for fifth place.

Fargo South (1:31.00) and Minot (1:31.01) continued their back-and-forth affair in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Yoder (23.06), Wolsky (22.65), Griffin Schaeffer (22.89) and Spaulding (22.41) trimmed 1.06 off their entry time.

In the 100-yard backstroke event, Reinke scored additional points for Minot. He finished in third place with a final time of 58.42, while Century’s Charles Koebele (53.62) took the top spot.

Wolsky rolled to a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke event. He dropped 0.47 seconds off his seed time and finished with a 1:02.78.

The Magi finished their day with a resounding victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Yoder (50.77), King (50.86), Grant Schaeffer (49.71) and Walker-Rozo (50.30) linked up for a final time of 3:21.64.

Dive

Minot’s Layton King (386.40) earned a third-place finish in the 1-meter diving event. Fargo South’s Connor Johnson claimed the top spot with a final score of 467.85.

The Magi will host Century for a 5 p.m. dual on Thursday.
