Bounce back victory for Majettes basketball over TMCHS

Brandon Carr/MDN Minot High senior forward Allie Nelson (2) glides past Turtle Mountain Community High School senior Tambraye Trottier (5) for two of her six first-half points on Tuesday evening in Minot. Nelson finished the game with 15 points.

Going into tonight’s matchup, the Majettes (7-8, 7-7 WDA) looked to retaliate from a 71-34 home loss at the hands of North Dakota’s Class A No. 1-ranked girls basketball team, Devils Lake, in a nonconference matchup on Feb. 1.

Minot High did so, nearly copying the score of Saturday’s defeat, winning 71-37 over Turtle Mountain Community High School (1-14, 0-14 WDA) on Tuesday in Minot.

Both teams got off to a slow start. But, the Majettes established their dominance by pulling away late into the first half, taking a 29-18 lead into halftime.

The Majettes outscored TMCHS by 13 points in the second half. The loss extends TMCHS losing streak to 14 straight in conference play.

“Solid night for the Majettes on both ends of the floor,” MHS head coach Jason Schwarz said. “Our press was a little more effective and caused some turnovers, which we were able to convert into points in transition — solid defensive effect. We were patient on offense. Mariah Evenson stepped up and was aggressive in her attacks to the basket.”

Majettes sophomore Mariah Evenson led the team in scoring with 19 points, grabbing six rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot in the victory.

Senior forward Allie Nelson finished with 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while senior guard Paige Rosencrans and Becca Tschetter both scored in double figures with 10 points each.

Kobi Keplin led TMCHS with 14 points, six rebounds and one blocked shot in defeat.

Minot High will continue their eight-game homestand as the Majettes host Bismarck St. Mary’s on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
