Sabre Dogs GM Darrell Handelsman resigns

Four months before the start of the season, Souris Valley Sabre Dogs general manager Darrell Handelsman publicly announced his resignation Wednesday afternoon via Twitter.

“I’m saddened to say that I have resigned my position and am no longer with the Sabre Dogs. Too many great people to thank for an amazing 2 years! On to the next challenge. #beatthegame,” Handelsman tweeted.

When asked for a explanation/reason for the rather sudden resignation, Handelsman told the Minot Daily News: “I have two boys, 11 and 13, in the Twin Cities and I want to be closer to them.”

Handelsman helped in building the Sabre Dogs’ program from the ground up since its inception in 2018.

In their first two seasons of existence in the Expedition League, the Sabre Dogs accumulated a 78-51 regular-season record with a pair of Divisional Playoff round appearances – losing to the Badlands Big Sticks both times in one-game postseason affairs.

In September 2019, the Sabre Dogs announced head coach Corey Thompson would be back for the 2020 summer season.
