MSU women’s basketball drops 80-56 decision to St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Three-point shooting proved to be a key factor in Minot State’s 80-56 loss to St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers (3-3, 0-2 NSIC) shot 8.3% (1-of-12) from three-point range, while the Huskies (4-3, 1-2 NSIC) converted on 39.3% (11-of-28) of their opportunities. In addition, St. Cloud State won the battle on the boards by a margin of 45-27.

The Huskies outscored Minot State 21-9 in the second quarter. That frame widened the gap and pushed the lead to 43-28.

After a tightly contested third quarter, St. Cloud State finished the job in the fourth quarter. Four Huskies (Brehna Evans, Madelin Dammann, Nikki Kilboten, Katrina Theis) finished the contest with double-figure scoring outputs.

Evans connected on 5-of-10 3-pointers. MSU senior guard Mariah Payne scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 from the field.

Both teams will play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13. MSU will host Northern State University (5-3, 1-1 NSIC), while St. Cloud State will travel to Southwest Minnesota State.
