Magi swim & dive earns convincing victory at Coyote Sprint Meet

WILLISTON — After a strong start in Saturday’s Coyote Sprint Meet, the Minot High School swim and dive team kept finding success.

The Magicians came away with their season’s first victory during Saturday’s meet at the Williston Area Rec Center. Minot’s 591 points trounced WDA foes, with Mandan’s 286 points good for second place.

Swim

The Minot quartet of sophomore Kalen Hill, senior Jack Wolsky, freshman Jaxon Reinke and senior Zac Spaulding posted a score of 1:42.86 in the 200-yard medley relay. That result granted the Magi first place in the first event.

Sophomore Grant Schaeffer recorded a time of 1:56.25 in the 200-yard freestyle, granting him second place.

Wolsky (56.95) led the pack in the 100-yard individual medley. Junior Dominic Yoder (57.98) and Reinke (58.89) earned third and fourth place, respectively.

A Minot freshman stole the 50-yard freestyle show. Alexander King (23.16) found his rhythm and secured first place.

Minot earned second through fifth place the 50-yard butterfly. Wolsky (25.10), Hill (26.48), freshman Levi VonBonkern (26.56) and senior Griffin Schaeffer (26.66) finished consecutively.

King continued to impress in the 100-yard freestyle, winning the event with a score of 50.69. Yoder (50.98) finished in second place.

Yoder (26.42), Hill (27.17) and Reinke (27.81) swept the 50-yard backstroke’s top three spots.

The Magi also performed well in the 50-yard breaststroke. Wolsky (28.67) and Griffin Schaeffer (29.26) finished in the respective first and second places.

Minot closed its day with two strong finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Grant Schaeffer, freshman Ryan Hubbard, Yoder and VonBonkern (1:34.83) won the event.

Dive

Minot senior Layton King took the win in the meet’s only diving event. King’s score of 188.80 gave him a first-place finish.
