MSU football upended by St. Cloud State, 31-19
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Sophomore quarterback Sean Kuenzinger made his first career start for the Minot State football team in a 31-19 loss to St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Kuenzinger went 15-for-21 for 152 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He was also sacked seven times.
The Beavers (3-7) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by freshman Ali Mohamed.
Mohamed was held to a team-high 29 rushing yards. He needs seven more yards to become the program’s Division II single-season leader in rushing yards.
St. Cloud State (4-6) took a 17-10 lead into halftime after touchdowns by Darian Washington and Joe Blando.
Washington hauled in another touchdown reception from Huskies quarterback Dwayne Lawhorn late in the fourth quarter.
MSU answered with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Kuenzinger to Mohamed. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the final score at 31-19.
MSU senior kicker JoseLuis Moreno made two field goals from 33 and 37 yards out.
The NSIC contest featured seven turnovers between the two teams.
SCSU outgained MSU 377-176 in total yardage.
Lavante Bushnell led all MSU receivers with five catches for 59 yards. Minot native Peyton Lamoureux had a season-high four catches for 27 yards.
The Beavers end the regular season at home next Saturday (Nov. 16) against the Beavers from Bemidji State (7-3). Minot State will be celebrating senior day. Kickoff at 1 p.m. from Herb Parker Stadium.
