Senior Night woes for Majettes volleyball against Mandan

Alex Eisen/MDN Minot High senior Allie Nelson (center) celebrates after a point scored in the first set against Mandan Tuesday evening in Minot.

Flowers and hugs exchanged, yet a match still had to be played.

Senior Night for the Minot High School volleyball team was denied a happy ending on Tuesday, as conference foe Mandan won the emotional affair by set scores of 25-12, 25-11, 28-26.

Mandan improved to 15-5 (10-3 WDA), while Minot fell to 6-12 (3-8 WDA).

“Struggled right out of the shoot to get things going offensively,” MHS head coach Sherry Carlson said. “Made several changes for set three, and then we started to play.”

Five senior Majettes — Tia Haskins, Allie Nelson, Paige Rosencrans, Jayda Bennett and Alyson Lucy — were recognized before the match.

But it was a junior, Morgan Wheeler, that had the standout match for the Majettes with a team-high 10 kills, 13 digs and a block.

Nelson provided four kills and an ace. Rosencrans and other setter Paige Ackerman dished out 12 and 6 assists, respectively.

“We aren’t ready to play with our full squad because of injuries,” Carlson said. “But thankful for the people contributing off the bench.”

The Majettes have a quick turnaround with another match at 7 p.m. this evening on the road against Bismarck St. Mary’s. Minot still has three more home matches on Oct. 25 against Dickinson, Oct. 29 against Bismarck Legacy and Nov. 5 against Williston.
