MSU women’s hockey picks up first road trip win
O’FALLON, Ill. — Following a pair of one-goal road defeats to Lindenwood University-Belleville on Thursday and Friday in Missouri, the Minot State women’s hockey team headed north to Illinois.
The Beavers (2-3) dished out the same punishment they had just received with a 2-1 victory Saturday over McKendree University (2-3) in a Women’s Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) conference contest.
MSU took the lead eight minutes into the first period on a goal by junior captain Sami Jo Henry. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Bismarck native Lara Wentz assisted Alyssa Albee’s game-tying goal in the second period for the Bearcats.
Deadlocked at 1-1 in the third period, MSU freshman Alisha O’Hara netted her third goal of the season. That turned out to be the game-winning goal, as goaltender Jordan Ivanco cleaned up everything else.
Ivanco only had to make 11 saves. MSU outshot McKendree 40-12.
The two teams will square off again in a rematch at 1 p.m. this afternoon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in Illinois.
