Majettes volleyball drops four-set match to Watford City

WATFORD CITY — The Minot High School volleyball team coasted to an easy win in the first set Tuesday evening on the road in Watford City.

The Wolves (8-17, 4-8 WDA) locked in and stunned the Majettes (6-14, 3-10 WDA) after that, winning in four sets by scores of 12-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-9.

“Came out swinging and controlling the match,” MHS head coach Sherry Carlson said. “After Watford took set two, we fell apart. No one could find the court or the open spot. We played hesitant and safe, and it cost us.”

MHS senior Allie Nelson and junior Morgan Wheeler each had a match-high nine kills. Wheeler also added eight digs and a block.

Setter Paige Rosencrans provided 20 assists and senior libero Tia Haskins finished with a team-high 14 digs.

Watford City had a balanced attack with Ashley Holen (eight kills), Jessica Mogen (seven) and Emma Mogen (seven) leading the way.

The result allowed Watford City to jump over Minot in the WDA standings.

The Majettes have five more conference games remaining to try and avoid playing a WDA Tournament play-in game.

Next up is a home match against Dickinson at 7 p.m. Friday.
