Majettes volleyball drops fifth straight

BISMARCK — The Minot High School volleyball team suffered its fifth straight sweep Wednesday evening at Bismarck St. Mary’s.

The Majettes (6-13, 3-9 WDA) lost by set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.

The St. Mary’s Saints improved to 14-6 overall (9-4 WDA) on the season.

“When they brought up their intensity, the girls played very well,” MHS head coach Sherry Carlson said. “It was hard-fought, and we are definitely competing.”

Minot junior Morgan Wheeler notched a team-high 10 kills to supplement nine digs and two blocks. Senior setter Paige Rosencrans had 18 assists.

Senior libero Tia Haskins dug up a team-high 14 digs.

Senior outside hitter Allie Nelson was held to three kills, one ace and seven digs.

Minot aims to break out of its recent slump next week Tuesday (Oct. 22) against Watford City (7-17, 3-8 WDA). The crucial conference match will likely play a factor in determining play-in game seedings for the upcoming West Region Tournament.

The Majettes already swept the Wolves earlier this season on Sept. 10 in Minot.

“A little break will be nice for them and those recovering from injuries,” Carlson said. “We are still very hopeful that this will come together at the right time.”

The next home match for the Majettes is Oct. 25 against Dickinson.
