Magi soccer clinches state berth

BISMARCK — Although the Minot High School boys soccer team didn’t have many chances to score against Legacy, the Magicians made the most of their opportunities.

Minot recorded just six total shots in Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Sabers in a WDA state qualifier. The Magi’s two shots on goal proved to be the difference, as they punched their ticket to the state tournament.

“The boys were able to take care of business,” Minot head coach Creighton Bachmeier said.

Minot sophomore midfielder Ezra Hagerott scored an unassisted goal in the 21st minute. Junior midfielder Cam Bolinske found the back of the net in the 58th minute after receiving an assist from junior midfielder Walter Markle.

Minot senior goalkeeper Braden Cochran made three saves, while counterpart Lucas Weigel did not record any. Bolinske and Markle earned All-WDA honors.

“Now, it’s time to focus all of our attention to competing for the ultimate prize,” Bachmeier said.

The Magi will face Fargo South in the first round of the state tournament at 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Dacotah Centennial Park in Mandan.
