BISMARCK — After trailing 14-10 to Bismarck High at halftime, the Minot High School football team had some chances to make magic happen.

However, the Magicians sputtered in the second half, falling 35-17 at the Bismarck Community Bowl. The defending state champions improved to 4-3 (4-1 WDA), while Minot fell to 3-4 (2-3 WDA).

“I would call it a game of missed opportunities,” Minot head coach Barry Holmen said. “We had chances for some explosive plays, maybe some touchdown plays.”

The Demons capitalized on their chances and led 28-10 at the end of three quarters.

Minot added an early fourth-quarter touchdown, but Bismarck High countered with a quick score to pad their lead. The score remained at 35-17 for the majority of the fourth quarter.

“When we are behind, our offense is not so much run and ball control anymore,” Holmen said. “The defense is out for much longer.”

Mandan (3-2 WDA) defeated Legacy (3-2 WDA), 50-32, on Monday night, which sets up a crucial contest at 7 p.m. on Oct 19. The Magi and Sabers will square off, marking Minot’s final regular-season home game.

“We didn’t lay down at all,” Holmen said. “Despite a disappointing night, we feel like we control our own destiny. We like that.”
