Minot State men’s hockey clips Briercrest Clippers 5-4 in OT

The Minot State men’s hockey team defeated the Briercrest Clippers 5-4 at Maysa Arena on Saturday.

Minot State’s first goal came off the stick of sophomore forward Jordan Robertson. After a Briercrest goal, the teams entered the second period knotted at 1-1.

Sophomore forward Landyn Cochrane, sophomore forward Justin Metcalf and senior forward Johl Swedlo all scored goals in the second period. The Beavers held a 4-1 advantage.

The Clippers stormed back and forced overtime. Three minutes into the overtime period, freshman Kirklan Lycar found the back of the net.

Next up, the Beavers will travel to Briercrest for the third and fourth games of the preseason series. Start times are to be determined.

Minot State women’s hockey falls 3-1 to University of Regina

The Minot State women’s hockey team took a 3-1 loss to the University of Regina Cougars on Saturday. The game was held in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Beavers drew first blood, as Mackenzie Balogh scored the game’s opening goal. The Cougars tied the score later in the period, and the teams headed into the second period knotted at 1-1.

Regina scored twice in the second period. The Cougars scored their third goal of the game with one second remaining in the period.

Neither team scored in the third period. The Beavers will return to action at 11:45 a.m. this afternoon against Regina.
