Majettes volleyball no match for Century

BISMARCK — Four-time defending Class A volleyball state champions Bismarck Century (11-2, 5-1 WDA) powered past Minot High (5-8, 2-4 WDA) Thursday evening by set scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-16.

The final score didn’t tell the whole story.

“We progressed,” MHS head coach Sherry Carlson said. “We were able to get off several attacks and they picked up so much of it. There were some long volleys, but (we) couldn’t get the side out.”

Junior Morgan Wheeler led the Majettes with nine kills on 27 attack attempts. MHS senior outside hitter Allie Nelson was contained throughout the match, only getting one kill on 16 attack attempts.

MHS junior setter Paige Ackerman led the team with 12 assists and nine digs.

“We have to work on reading the setter better,” Carlson said. “Critical to have those blocks with a team like Century.”

The Majettes picked up two solo blocks from Nelson and Preslie Everson.

Minot’s next match is against Williston on the road at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.
