MHS boys tennis claims first conference win against Bismarck High

BISMARCK — The Minot High School boys tennis team started conference play Tuesday with a win over Bismarck High. The Magicians claimed the match at Tom O’Leary Tennis Courts 8-1.

“We started with doubles and got strong play from all three of our teams,” Magi head coach Scott DeLorme said. “We’re showing glimpses of playing to our potential and now we need to put that into longer stretches. That will come from experience and each match is a huge bonus for our entire lineup.”

The Magicians swept the Demons in doubles. Each doubles pair — Ridge Jaeger and Jack Wolsky, Zach Diehl and Zach Renaud, Hunter Rice and Aiden Diehl — took their victories in straight sets.

Earning wins in singles were Jaeger, Wolsky, Rice, Renaud and Aiden Diehl.

At No. 1 in singles, sophomore Zach Diehl faught hard for two sets, but ultimately fell to Bismarck High’s Lucas Schell 7-6 (4) and 7-6 (6).

“The nice part of our early matches is we’re getting match play experience, but more importantly we’re seeing positive contributions from everyone within the lineup which will be a huge boost as we get into the tougher part of our schedule,” DeLorme added.

Up next, the Magicians will be back on their home court Thursday as they face Williston at Hammond Park. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

soccer falls at Jamestown

JAMESTOWN — The Minot High School boys soccer team fell 3-0 at the hands of the Jamestown Blue Jays on Tuesday night. Minot moved to 1-4-1 (1-2-1 WDA) after the road loss.

The Blue Jays struck twice in the first half. Matt Morin scored an unassisted goal in the 14th minute, and Kael Jension added another goal in the 34th minute. Jenison’s goal was assisted by Cullin Bennett.

In the second half, Jenison found the back of the net once again. Morin assisted his goal in the 74th minute.

“Real tough one on the road tonight,” Minot head coach Creighton Bachmeier said. “We had plenty of chances to take control of the game, but failed to deliver. Give credit to Jamestown for capitalizing on their chances.”

Minot senior goalkeeper Braden Cochran made nine saves on the night. The Magi outshot the Blue Jays 19-18, but Jamestown recorded 12 shots on goal to Minot’s nine.

Minot will travel to Mandan for a 7:30 p.m. match on Thursday, while Jamestown (5-1-0, 3-1-0 WDA) will head to Williston for a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
